Welcome to new SFCS teacher Brian Hughes! Mr. Hughes will be teaching in the 5-6 classroom this fall. Mr. Hughes, who now lives in Catheys Valley, earned his BA in Sociology and his Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from California State University, Stanislaus. He has worked in the education field for ten years, initially as a Recreation Leader, then as an instructional paraprofessional for the After School Education and Safety Program at various elementary schools in Modesto. This background includes working with at-risk and troubled youth, implementing positive behavioral programs, tutoring students in math and English, and coaching youth sports, such as basketball and football. He also has worked as a K-8 substitute teacher for Modesto City Schools for several years. Mr. Hughes feels that the inquiry-based, hands-on and minds-on approach at SFCS will provide students with optimal opportunities for learning and continual self-growth. He looks forward to teaching science daily and utilizing the place-based learning approach. He is also excited to serve the students and families of his local community.
