Yesterday, each class had the chance to experience the Mariposa County Fire Safety House. Small groups went in one at a time to learn about fire safety. First, students were told how to be safe if a fire occurs. They were told how their family should have a meeting spot, how they should safely get out of their house, and what they should do if they catch on fire. Next, a fireman put on his fire gear for the students to see. He talked about each piece of equipment and why it is necessary to wear when he goes into a house fire. After that, the safety house was filled with a smoke-like substance so that students could practice how to safely exit the house and go to their meeting place. Finally, each student had a chance to practice dialing 9-1-1 so that they could be aware of the questions they would be asked if they ever really do need to call about a fire. The Mariposa County Fire Department did an amazing job educating students about fire safety.
