The fifth and sixth graders are working on string art! This project takes a lot of patience, rigor, and math. Students first worked in math on scales and ratios, division of fractions, and relating a ruler to fractions on a number line. Students then paired up to work on portions of the art project (but each student will be completing his or her own piece). Students sanded their boards, pieced a pattern, and have copied the pattern on a scale. They evenly spaced the lines on their grids for the placement of nails. They have painted their boards, copied the pattern, and have begun nailing the brags. They are using needle nosed pliers for safety. The finished products are going to be beautiful!
